Emily is a Communication Designer, illustrator, crafter, founder of Maker Foundation and Creative Director of Vancouver Mini Maker Faire. Looking for fabric to sew together a new shirt or skirt? Perhaps quilting supplies? Our Social Fabric fills your fabric needs with tremendous deals. These sales are possible since this great group has rescued all these textiles from stores that were otherwise going to throw them out; old stock, ends of bolts, etc. Textiles are one the most common household items and represent a staggering proportion of the solid wastestream: approximately 16kg per person, or a total of 33,600 tonnes in Metro Vancouver in 2006, to give you an idea. So, come down, grab some goodies and make something nice. So, what Our Social Fabric is doing is quite an honourable pursuit.
They only open their doors once a month so, be on your game this Saturday and head down to their temporary location at 1631 Powell St.

Ben Z Cooper is an imaginographer. He weaves together cinematography, photography, and chronography with computers, brains, and time to bring ideas to life. While we at Vancouver Mini Maker Faire believe everyone is a Maker, if you prefer to admire, touch, squeeze, play with, be inspired by or wear things made by others, come check out the Blim Community Market this coming Sunday at the Heritage Hall on Main Street. Their market includes 48 vendors ranging from crafts, fine art, music, fashion, vintage items, accessories, and supplies, as well as hot food, beverages, and entertainment.
You will also find representatives from your friendly VMMF organizing team at our very own table to answer questions, recruit volunteers, sign up new makers for VMMF2012, and sell some nifty swag (including our must-have Maker buttons!).
What: BLIM Community Market
Where: Heritage Hall, Main and 15th Ave.
When: Sunday, March 25th, 12-5
Why: To promote and nurture creative production and community, and contribute to Mt Pleasant’s artistic vitality.

We will be showcasing some of the bikes that are made, for the main event held at the Pacific National Exhibition on June 23rd/24th, 2012.
We already have a few bikes ready for our “Meet your Makers” kick-off party at the Museum of Vancouver on March 15, 2012. It would also be wonderful, if anyone wants to trick-out their own bike (or have us do it up for you) and bring it to the kick-off event!

This weekend marks the East Side Culture Crawl, where zillions of artists open up their studios to the public and sell original, one-of-a-kind artwork!

Come out and help plan a yarn bomb attack to promote Vancouver Mini Maker Faire! We’re having an official yarn-bomb meeting next Sunday at the Vancouver Hack Space!
When: Sunday May 29th 1:00pm
Where: Vancouver Hack Space (VHS) [45 West Hastings]. The entrance is around the back where the crow mural is located. Please ring the doorbell and we’ll pass a key down! Confused? Here’s a video.
What: The meet-up will be hosted by the lovely Claire Desmarais, with a feature talk by Leanne Prain, author of the book, Yarnbombing.
This event is open to anyone wanting to get a knitting or crochet project started, or help spread the Maker Faire spirit! So come out, bring some supplies, ideas, friends, and cookies! (Because what’s knitting and crocheting without cookies?)
